We supply small quantities of Steamed willow rods for weaving, these come in packs of 60 rods and each rod is between 3' and 5' long or 45 rods of 6' long. Steamed willow is a natural dried willow that has been boiled for a few hours to deepen its colour. This process releases the tannins in the willow stems which stain the willow bark a lovely dark chocolate colour and softens the texture. It is important that you soak your willow before use, steamed willow requires less soaking time than many willow rods with the bark on. The recommendation is around half a day of soaking per foot of length which means that a 4' rod will need around 2 days in cold water. This can be done in a bath or water trough, alternatively we sell 6' and 7' foot plastic soaking bag & peg sets to help (it saves getting the bath sticky!).
