Golden Willow comes in 10"-12" cuttings. This willow is gorgeous, once extensively used as a basketry willow it now excels as an ornamental shrub. In spring the new growth is very attractive with bright foliage, but it really comes into its own in the winter when it offers some of the best colour around. It has strong yellow rods with orange, almost red, tops. It can be quite branchy particularly if grown as a specimen or in very rich soil.
Although it will grow into an attractive tree we like to keep it pollarded for the best colour and to avoid too much branching.
As a basketry willow the rods are nice, straight and even but it can be quite brittle. It is worth persevering for the colour though! Sometimes yellow basketry rods will go black if bruised so use it carefully. It will dry to a dark honey-brown.
