Black Maul £0.00

Black Maul comes in 10"-12" cuttings. This is a traditional basket willow used all over the world fresh, dried and peeled and the most common willow grown in Somerset for basketry.

Black Maul is also a very fragrant and ornamental willow with attractive new growth which is maroon/black in the Spring changing to olive green/brown as it matures. It is attractive giving good autumn colour. Rods are long (up to 9' in good conditions), slender and very flexible making it useful for working. The bark is smooth and dark and as you can see from the harvest picture, it flakes off in patches and is a reddy colour underneath. It is ornamental and as well as basketry is ideal for hedging.

It is becoming increasingly common in gardens as an attractive shrub or small bushy tree. It is frequently stripped to make buff willow and is one of the most common willow grown in the UK. It can be prone to disease so it is not ideal for living willow projects.
